Welcome to MRGraphics

HELLO

Unlike my main business site - Martin Roberts Graphics - which covers print, web and illustration, this site looks specifically at Character Illustration. As a graphic designer, I have always first and foremost loved character design and creation. Be it fun and quirky or professional and slick. Using precise linework in illustrator or sketching with a pen, I just love to draw.

The medium of illustration is being commercially used more so now than ever before. From icons to mascots, packaging to posters, billboards to commercials. Look at the likes of Nike, Coke, Barclays, Orange, Sky
and Vodafone. Testimony to large brands taking it seriously.

I love what I do, I enjoy what I do, I find purpose in what I do.

"...
illustration is now a discipline heroically standing its own ground..." Lawrence Zeegan

TESTIMONIALS

For more glowing comments, view here...

"We have, and continue to use Martin for our graphic design requirements. His diverse creative abilities have proved time and again to be both excellent and high quality. Unlike many designers, Martin manages to create very individual designs each time, rather than having a design style that gets regurgitated. In short, we cannot recommend Martin highly enough."
Andy Larkum (Director, ADL Consulting)

“It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Martin on every project I have entrusted to him. He is the consummate professional; always ensuring work is completed well within the timeframe given, and quick to respond to any and all requests. I am constantly impressed with his unique and inspired creative ideas for each project, and the quality of the final design is always flawless.”
Lyn Ryman (MD, Selah Management)

"Martin has been working with Offshoot Design regularly over the past year. We always know that we can give Martin a brief and he will see the job through from concept to a final, resolved outcome quickly, accurately and with fantastic results. Everything that we have asked him to do has come in under time and has completely satisfied the customers' requirements."
Kenny Hall (Designer & Owner, Offshoot)

FAQs

1) How does the process of hiring you work? Please explain?

Firstly, we say "hello." You tell me exactly what it is you need done. (The more detailed the brief - your concept/ ideas - the better.) Next, I send you a quote. If you're happy and you wish to proceed, I then send you a formal invoice and you make a 50% deposit. Now the design process* can officially begin. Please make a note of my Ts & Cs.
Email me?

*The process will vary depending on the desired service, although usually it follows 3 Phases: 1) Research of competitors; initial brain-storming and sketching. 2) Presentation of ideas and thoughts; involving a number of directions. 3) Final design and follow-up.

2) I live in another country. Could you still do the job for me?

YES! Very easily in fact.* In this wonderful digital age, I can prepare your artwork for print or design your website, all from a distance. We can communicate over email, Skype and mobile. When completed, I will email you all relevant file types - saving you time.

*I have worked with clients from all over the world, including South Africa, England, Scotland, Ireland, Netherlands, Switzerland and America.

3) What are your rates? How cheap can you go for me?

I will happily discuss my rates when
you make a formal business request. As for how cheap I can go, that’s a question I dislike immensely! While my rates are very competitive, I can’t work for peanuts. Please respect that I am a professional, with clients to focus on, bills to pay, and a wife to spoil.

4) How quickly can you start, and how quickly can you turn a job around?

It all depends on existing projects that I may be working on and what exactly it is that you need done. On average: Logos and websites take between two and three weeks to complete. Smaller projects can usually be done within a week. I believe one of the perks in using a freelancer is quick, efficient service!

5) Do you develop/ build eCommerce and other CMS based websites?

I specialise more in the front-end or user interface design of a website or application. I therefore prefer to outsource most web and UI development. I do work with a couple of very talented developers who will get the job done for you, so feel free to send me your request. I am very happy to project manage the whole process or introduce you directly to the developer/s.

6) Do you work alongside agencies?

YES! I work with a number of larger agencies who oftentimes have too much on their plate for their in-house designers. That's where I come in. No heavy contracts. No red-tape. I can provide friendly, skilled, ad-hoc help when you're swamped.

7) How do I make payment?

Payment is usually best made via a bank transfer, in which event bank account details shall be provided. 50% deposit is requested prior to the start of your project, and the remainder upon project completion.
